Clinical & Systems Transformation
I worked at Vancouver Coastal Health as a Graphic Design, Video, and Multimedia Specialist Intern, contributing creative support to the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) initiative a joint project between Vancouver Coastal Health, Provincial Health Services Authority, and Providence Health Care. My role focused on translating complex clinical information into clear, engaging visual communication through posters, illustrations, and video content.

A Step in the Right Direction
One of the key projects I contributed to was “A Step in the Right Direction”, the first patient story produced following a CST go-live implementation at Lions Gate Hospital. The film captures a patient’s journey from her own perspective and was created to share the impact of CST across internal teams, partner health organizations, and external conferences. Go-lives mark the launch of a new clinical information system within a hospital or medical centre, making this project a critical storytelling moment for the transformation program.
Logline
This patient story follows Victoria Withers, whose life changes after a sudden injury during a tennis match on Vancouver’s North Shore, capturing her journey through care following the CST go-live.
Process
For this project, I transformed a two-hour interview into a compelling two-minute patient story by identifying the most meaningful moments, shaping a clear narrative, and refining the pacing. I handled the full post-production process, including story editing, color correction, audio cleanup in Adobe Audition, and the integration of supporting B-roll to enhance emotional impact and viewer engagement.
Key Takeaways
This project strengthened my ability to analyze existing user interfaces by understanding user needs, context, and behavior through testing. I learned how user feedback directly informs design decisions and how thoughtful improvements can significantly enhance the quality and usability of an application.
